Connecting

One of the projects that we want to realise in Katwadde long term, is making a netwerk. This would mean there would be a small scale internet available in the town.

This smaller version of the internet called "Katwaddenet", could contain a webserver that could function as a library, allowing people to have easy access to a shared knowledgebase with information that is vital to the community.

Jari Maijenburg has been thinking about the best way to set this up. The system he came up with would consist of a Raspberry Pi computer stationed in for example the school. This would function as a webserver that phones can connect to. Around the town would be access points to spread the wireless signal and the range of this server. We would like to arrange that multiple people could own a phone to make use of the netwerk.

Another option is supplying cheap computers for in peoples homes and connecting them with network wires so they would be in contact with eachother.

The netwerk would be able to be used by the people to share knowledge. Once the netwerk is in place, we could also think about adding a chat system or a forum and connecting the netwerk to the internet.

In Uganda is a little rural village called Katwadde. When John Ssentamu moved to this village he started the Good Shepard Primary School for the children who couldn't go to school before for multiple reasons. Wiard, Jari and Iris have been there to meet the community. We want to help both the school and the community so they can develop into the best that they can be. On this site you can read about what we have done and what we want to do in the future. We hope you enjoy it.
